Suspected Hacker Attack on Greek Parliament

A temporary shutdown of the legislature’s web mail followed the hack of 60 Greek Parliament emails on Friday.

According to a Parliament briefing on the incident, “On 20 January, 2022, during the midday hours, the Informatics Directorate detected an effort from an external IP to gain access to Parliament email accounts. Operation of Parliament’s web mail was immediately suspended in order to protect users’ accounts and competent supervisory authorities were apprised of the incident. The Informatics Directorate [of Parliament] is in direct, close cooperation with competent authorities in order to evaluate the incident.”

The email accounts hacked belonged to MPs, Parliament employees and journalists.
