BayMark Health Services, Inc. (BayMark), the largest provider of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders in North America, has confirmed a data breach that exposed the personal and health information of an undisclosed number of patients.
Details of the BayMark Data Breach Incident
In its breach notification, BayMark revealed that on October 11, 2024, it discovered unauthorized access to its IT systems. The breach reportedly occurred between September 24 and October 14, 2024 and resulted in attackers accessing sensitive patient files.
What Information Was Compromised?
The investigation into the incident found that the compromised data varied per patient but may have included:

RansomHub Ransomware Group Claims Responsibility
Although BayMark did not specify the number of affected patients or provide detailed information on the breach’s origin, the RansomHub ransomware group has listed BayMark Health Services on its dark web leak site.
According to RansomHub, the group exfiltrated 1.5 terabytes of sensitive data. The listing’s date aligns with BayMark’s disclosed breach timeline, and the data’s “published” status suggests that BayMark refused to meet the ransom demand.
RansomHub’s Public Statement on the Dark Web
In a typical display of cybercriminal rhetoric, the RansomHub group blamed BayMark for failing to protect its systems. The dark web post reads:
“One of the few companies from Texas that does not value its data. For a nominal fee, they could have avoided this situation, improved their network, and protected themselves. Instead, they chose to destroy their reputation, expose sensitive data, and let the media cover it.”
BayMark Health Services’ Commitment to Care Amid Security Concerns
BayMark Health Services has long been known for providing personalized care to individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders. Its services include evidence-based clinical counseling, medical support, and recovery programs.
However, this breach raises concerns about the protection of sensitive patient data in healthcare organizations, especially those handling highly confidential information.
Steps for Patients and Recommendations
Patients potentially impacted by the breach should take proactive measures to protect their information:
Monitor financial and insurance accounts for unusual activity.
Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with major credit bureaus.
Stay updated with further notifications from BayMark Health Services regarding identity theft protection services or other support.
