Tradind and investing US company Robinhood said that millions on customer’s personal information was exposed in a data breach last week.
Robinhood said that hackers obtained around 5 million email addresses and full names for different group of approximately two million people.
Additionally, personal information like name, date of birth, and zip code for 310 customers and more extensive details for 10 of those customers were obtained by the hackers.
No social security numbers, bank account numbers or credit card numbers were exposed and no financial loss occurred to any customers based on Robinhood’s investigation.
How did the data breach happen?
The data breach occurred last Wednesday after hackers tricked customer support employee over the phone into giving them access to certain customer support systems.
After Robinhood contained the intrusion, the unauthorized party demanded an extortion payment. Law enforcement was informed and investigation with the help of Mandiant, a leading security firm is ongoing.
